Set off on a full day of independent discovery to explore two of France’s most iconic landmarks at your own pace. With the help of audio commentary available through our app, you will stroll through the magnificent gardens of Claude Monet's Gardens, visit the home and studio of Claude Monet, and uncover the rich history of the Palace of Versailles.
Board a comfortable air-conditioned coach and head to the Fondation Claude Monet in Giverny. Once there, explore the site freely, beginning with Monet’s house. Learn more about the artist’s life in the home where he lived until his death, and admire rooms such as the “blue room” reading area, the bright yellow dining room decorated with Japanese prints, and his private apartments. Continue to the former studio, now a gift shop, offering a range of souvenirs inspired by his work.
Then, enhance your visit with audio commentary as you wander through the gardens that inspired some of Monet’s most famous paintings. Follow flower-lined paths bursting with color, discover the Clos Normand with its diverse plant varieties, and cross the iconic Japanese bridge in the water garden. Take in the peaceful setting and admire the famous water lilies that appear in many of Monet’s masterpieces, all in a serene and dreamlike atmosphere.
Next, return to the coach and travel just a few minutes to enjoy lunch at either the Le Moulin de Fourges or the Bistrot du Moulin, where you will savor traditional Norman cuisine.
In the afternoon, continue to the Palace of Versailles with priority access, allowing you to make the most of your visit. Guided by your audio commentary, explore the King’s Apartments, a suite of seven richly decorated rooms each dedicated to a different deity. Then step into the breathtaking Hall of Mirrors, a grand reception gallery overlooking the gardens, once used to host prestigious events. This dazzling space reflects the grandeur of King Louis XIV and the artistic brilliance of the 17th century.
If the Musical Fountains Show or Musical Gardens are not taking place, take advantage of free time to wander through the gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre. You will discover an impressive layout of fountains, statues, groves, flower beds, and reflecting pools, all arranged with remarkable symmetry and scale
