Plan your Louvre visit: hours, prices and access

The museum welcomes visitors almost every day from 9 am to 6 pm, except on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December. It is closed on Tuesdays, the day reserved for maintenance, restoration and the installation of new works. The galleries remain open over lunch, and late openings on Wednesday and Friday extend the visit until 9:00 pm. Evening hours are particularly welcome for a calmer pace and easier access to the works.

The most familiar access is the Pyramid entrance, with escalators and stairs leading to the great Napoleon Hall. Regular visitors often prefer the Porte des Lions (currently closed for technical reasons) or the Passage Richelieu, available with a skip-the-line ticket or reservation. The inverted pyramid, accessible from the Carrousel du Louvre and connected to Rue de Rivoli and the Tuileries Gardens, is another option, often busy as well.

Visitors with reduced mobility benefit from elevators serving every floor, and the Tactile Gallery offers blind visitors molded works that can be touched.
 

Buying a ticket online ensures a smoother visit, with no queue at the ticket offices. The least crowded entrance, Passage Richelieu, leads directly to the great hall. Several formats are available: self-paced visit with audio guide, guided tour with an expert, or combined offers including a Seine cruise or a stop at Notre-Dame de Paris.
